First snow of the season: Alberta warnings, B.C. storm, Newfoundland flurries
Snowfall warnings in Alberta, a windy fall storm forecast for B.C.'s Interior and the first accumulating snow in western Newfoundland: winter is knocking early.

Winter is arriving early across parts of Canada this week: Environment Canada has issued snowfall warnings for Alberta with 7 to 25 centimetres expected in some areas, while B.C.’s Interior braces for a windy fall storm and western Newfoundland has seen its first accumulating snow on high terrain.
Alberta: 7-25 cm and tricky travel
The snowfall warnings cover a significant pattern shift bringing the season’s first real accumulation to the province, with travel impacts expected on routes including Highway 40. Drivers are urged to check 511 Alberta before heading out.
B.C. Interior: wind, thunder, mountain snow
Forecasters say Saturday brings gusts up to 80 km/h across the Interior, possible thunderstorms over the Cariboo and Columbia regions, and snow at higher elevations – a classic October transition storm.
Newfoundland: snow on the high country
A special weather statement flagged the first notable accumulating snowfall on higher terrain of the Great Northern Peninsula and Green Bay-White Bay, while flurries have also touched northern Ontario and Quebec hills.
The overall pattern points to a chilly, changeable second half of October for most of the country. Official warnings are always at weather.gc.ca. More coverage in Weather & Environment.
